Tips to manage your credit card.
Whether you have a new Westpac credit card, or want to make sure you’re using your existing one card effectively, here are some simple tips to take control.
Make your credit card work for you.
Take control with Westpac One® online banking
You can do so much in online banking: apply for a change to your credit limit, let us know when you’ll be spending with your card overseas, or keep an eye on your balance and upcoming payments. You can also temporarily block your card using Westpac One if you misplace it (without having to cancel it straight away).
Consider a balance transfer
If you have any outstanding debt elsewhere, such as an outstanding balance on hire purchases, store cards, another bank’s credit card or personal loan, you could pay this off faster with a balance transfer1.
Set up your payments
By setting up your monthly credit card payment in advance in Westpac One, this could help you to avoid interest charges. If your Westpac credit card is new, don’t forget to change any existing direct debits to your new card number.
Set and forget regular bills
Pay your subscriptions for things like the gym, gaming, music, TV and movie streaming services with your card and to ensure no interruption to your services.

Get rewards sooner
If you have an Airpoints™ or hotpoints® credit card, here’s a tip: put your everyday purchases on your card, not just the big-ticket items, and you’ll earn hotpoints2 or Airpoints Dollars™ faster3 – meaning you can reward yourself faster too. Make sure you pay the balance on your card off in full each month to avoid paying any interest.
Managing your card’s interest-free period
Each Westpac credit card has an interest-free period of up to 44 days or up to 55 days on purchases. Interest free days give you access to interest free credit if you pay off your balance in full by the payment due date.
If you only pay off part of your outstanding balance by the payment due date, you’ll pay interest on your purchases from the day you made them. To enjoy interest free days on your purchases, you’ll need to pay off the full balance (excluding balance transfers) by the payment due date in a future statement month.
Interest free days are not available on cash advances, balance transfers or interest and fees.
