About Government business.
Government banking.
Westpac became banker to the New Zealand Government in 1989. Since then we have established and grown a dedicated Public Sector Team, providing for the day-to-day banking needs of each government department.
In addition to meeting Government's everyday banking, we are continuously reviewing the way we deliver practical and strategic solutions to support the New Zealand Government in achieving its stated business objectives. This has seen a broadening in our focus with our key priorities including:
- Providing technological leadership in banking services and payment systems to ensure the New Zealand Government can operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible
- Fostering a greater understanding of individual department's specific business objectives and the impact to proposed structural changes in the public sector
- Encouraging greater participation in government policy formulation where there is strategic alignment, e.g. supporting the Government's programme for business development from incubation onwards.
Supporting New Zealand.
Westpac is committed to improving the quality of life of a broad range of New Zealanders through our active support of a variety of organisations, services and facilities from the Westpac Rescue Helicopters and the Sir Peter Blake Trust.
We also share the Government's enthusiasm for New Zealand's regions, and like government, recognise that regional growth and greater connectivity across and within sectors are critical factors in ensuring New Zealand's success in a global environment.
Just one of the ways that Westpac supports regional business is by working with Chambers of Commerce, enterprise and industry associations to support regional business awards. We sponsor specific industry awards, e.g. Franchise Awards, and the NZ Dairy Industry Awards - and offer a free comprehensive banking review to all our agribusiness and business customers
