How do I use the Confirmation of Payee digital banking payment check?
When you add a new payee or edit an existing payee in Westpac One we automatically check the name you enter against the account holder name at the bank you are paying into with the Confirmation of Payee service.
The check only takes a few seconds.
1. Add or edit the name of the person or business you want to pay or add to your list of payees. For a step by step guide go to How do I add and edit a payee?
2. Select ‘Check details’.
- The service compares the account name and number you entered with the account holder name at the bank you’re paying into.
- It then gives one of the following results.

Why the service isn’t checking international or credit card payments
- We are focusing on rolling the check out across New Zealand banks.
- Both the sending and receiving banks need the same system for the service to complete the payment check.
- Bank accounts use different account number structures in different countries.
Credit card payments are protected by measures like MasterCard Identity Check and other fraud detection technology.
We recognise that international payment and credit card scams are concerning. We also monitor fraud trends 24/7, use technology to detect fraud and work with other organisations to help prevent scams. Keep up to date with scams, make sure you trust the person you are paying and double check their details before you make a credit card or overseas payment.
