Open banking.
Make a payment directly from your bank account or share your account information securely through Westpac One® using approved third-party service providers.
What is open banking?
Open banking is a payments industry initiative led by Payments NZ that involves several participating banks, including Westpac. It enables participating banks to give approved third-party service providers standardised access to payment and data sharing technology. This allows approved service providers to build new products and services.
The goal is to give New Zealanders more ways to make payments and manage their money.
What this means for Westpac customers
An approved service provider can request your consent to securely connect to your Westpac One account to deliver their services. If you choose to provide your consent, you’ll be able to:
- Make a payment directly from your bank account via their service, for example, to an online store
- Securely share your account information via their service, for example, if you want to provide your transactional account history to a mortgage provider for a home loan application.
How does the approval process work for third-party service providers?
Eligible service providers must be approved by Westpac before being allowed to connect and provide their services to Westpac customers.
When will these services be available?
- Currently you can make a one-off payment directly from your bank account to another account in New Zealand using an approved service provider.
- From November 2024, you’ll be able to share your account information using an approved service provider.
Which third-party service providers are we working with?

View and manage access to your account
All access consents can be managed by the person who provided the consent from the Third-party access page in Westpac One. All other parties on an account will be able to view access consents on their account.
Is it secure?
Open banking provides protections designed to keep your information safe
Your data is protected by using a secure channel that allows Westpac and the approved service provider to safely communicate with each other and share information. Westpac will only work with service providers who have been through Westpac’s due diligence process and meet Westpac’s security standards.
You don’t need to disclose sensitive information, like your username or password, to the service provider. Westpac will never ask you to confirm, update or provide your information through links sent by email or SMS.
What else do I need to consider to keep my information safe?
It’s a good idea to check your service provider’s privacy and data use policy to understand how they use and protect customer data once they receive it.
