You must be over 18 years old to apply online for a Tertiary account or Career Starter account. If you’re under 18 years old you will need a parent or guardian to co-sign this application form, in person at a Westpac branch, accepting the Debit card terms and conditions.

Tertiary account terms and conditions
To qualify for a Tertiary account you must:
be a New Zealand resident; and 
be either (a) studying full time or part time at an NZQA accredited tertiary institute for at least one semester (minimum 12 weeks), or (2) working and studying towards a Tertiary Education Commission (‘TEC’) approved Level 4 New Zealand Apprenticeship); and 
have your salary, wages or any other form of income paid directly to your Tertiary account.

The Tertiary account is available for the duration of your course or apprenticeship. This is normally three or four years, however can be extended with evidence of further study.
After your course or apprenticeship finishes, your Tertiary account will automatically change to a Graduate account. The Graduate account is only available for 12 months, after which your account will then automatically change to a Westpac Everyday account and standard fees and charges will apply. 
The Tertiary account is a personal account owned by you and you will be the sole signatory on the account.

Career Starter account terms and conditions
To qualify for a Career Starter account, you must:
be aged between 16 and 20 years old when you sign up for the account; and 
be a New Zealand resident in full-time employment who has completed secondary school in the past two years; and 
have your salary, wages or any other form of income paid directly into your Career Starter account.

The Career Starter account is only available for two years, after which your account will automatically change to a standard Westpac Everyday account and standard fees and charges will apply.

The Career Starter account is a personal account owned by you and you will be the sole signatory on the account.

In addition to Westpac’s General Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, the following conditions apply:

You consent to and authorise Westpac to disclose and exchange any information held about me now or in the future to any party associated with a Westpac rewards programme (including without limitation Air New Zealand Limited) for the purpose of administration of the applicable rewards programme, provision of related services and for marketing and research purposes.

Fees are charged in accordance with the School Leavers and Graduates brochure and Westpac’s Transaction and Service Fees brochure. These are subject to change from time to time.

You cannot have a tertiary or first job account and package at another bank, and you can only have one Tertiary account or one Career Starter account with Westpac.
