About the Trust.

Te Waiu O Aotearoa Trust logo

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Te Waiu o Aotearoa Trust, which was established in 1994 in partnership with Māori and Iwi entities to promote, develop and provide for the education and advancement of Māori in the general business, banking, and finance industries.

Each year, at the trustees’ discretion, Māori recipients throughout Aotearoa are each awarded a $5,000 scholarship towards their tertiary study costs.

The Trust is administered by Westpac New Zealand Limited.

2025 scholarships.

The 2025 Te Waiu o Aotearoa Trust tertiary scholarships have now closed.

Key dates

  • 24 June 2024 – Applications open.
  • 13 October 2024 – Applications close.
  • 14 October 2024 to 11 November 2024 – Applications reviewed by Trustees panel, interviews held (if applicable) and selections made.
  • November 2024 – Applicants notified of application outcome.
  • December 2024 – Scholarship funds paid directly to educational institute on receipt by the Trust of an appropriate GST invoice for relevant study related costs.
